Invertebrate Paleontology Collections Policies

KUMIP specimens are available for scientific study to researchers visiting the collection and via loans to accredited institutions.

Loan Requests

Loans of KUMIP specimens are available for scientific study to researchers affiliated with an accredited institution. Students wishing to borrow material must do so through their graduate advisor. KUMIP will not lend material to individuals without institutional endorsement. Approval of all loan requests is at the discretion of the Curator.

Requests for loans must be in writing from an official member of the institution where the specimens will be stored and should be addressed to the Curator or Collection Manager. The request must include:

  • Name, institution, and position (e.g., faculty, postdoctoral researcher, graduate student, etc.)
  • Description of the research project including how the specimens will be studied
  • Taxa requested, including specimen numbers if known.

Undergraduate and graduate students must have their advisor co-sign the loan request. All loan paperwork will be made in the advisor’s name.
